A Three-University Conspiracy? (Or eight billion supporting fossil fuels)

By Robert Bradley Jr. -- December 21, 2023

“This conspiracy theorist needs to check his simplistic, authoritarian, emotional views. Eight billion consumers desiring the most affordable, reliable, plentiful energies is the reason why fossil fuels are winning. The real enemy in terms of human betterment is the climate industrial complex, the industrial wind developers, the solar cronies, and EV/battery elites. Mid-course correction needed, Mr. Carlevale.”

Edmund Carlevale, self-described as Transdisciplinary Communications, MIT whistleblower, City-based Sustainability Strategies, with a following of 25,000 on social media, has a very simple explanation of the crisis behind the climate crisis. He offers a crude theory behind “the failed strategies of marching in the streets to end fossil fuels, the endless horror stories of the environmental horrors in our future, and the unending technical debunking of scams like #carboncapture.” It is a conspiracy theory that mangles cause-and-effect. Here it is:

This is why emissions are skyrocketing and Big Oil stocks are booming.

The culprit of the global program is embedded in “3 corrupt U.S. universities producing propaganda written by the global oil cartel and published under the brand of prestigious U.S. universities, which give politicians the cover they need to continue funding business as usual.”

Continuing:

This argument is the basis of the report I am submitting to the U.S. Department of Justice, requesting an investigation into the #fossilfuelfunding given to #MIT#Stanford, and #Columbia University over the past 20 years.

The report examines 5 pieces of evidence published by these three institutions and their key players:

1. “Big Oil vs. the World, Part Three: Delay” (the PBS edit, 2022).
2. “How to get investors to say “Yes!” to CCS” (Ernest Moniz, Sally Benson, et al, Feb. 23, 2023).
3. “Behind All the Talk, This Is What Big Oil Is Actually Doing” (Jason Bordoff, New York Times op-ed, August 7, 2023).
4. “The Future of Coal” (Ernest Moniz, John Deutch, et al., MIT Energy Initiative, started 2004-published 2007).
5. “The Future of Natural Gas” (Ernest Moniz et al., MIT Energy Initiative, 2011).

Unlike doctors who face lawsuits for malpractice and lawyers who can be disbarred, or lobbyists who must register as such, academics have no accountability for anything produced outside the peer-review process. Yet the institution’s reputation is automatically applied to anything so published.

It is this system which the global oil cartel has rigged to serve its interests, and it is this system, imho, which is presently destroying Earth….

Back to Reality ….

This conspiracy theorist needs to take a sabbatical to check his simplistic, authoritarian, emotional views. Eight billion consumers desiring the most affordable, reliable, plentiful energies is the reason why fossil fuels are winning. It gets back to the fundamental concept of energy density of the sun’s work over the ages (creating coal, oil, and gas) versus the very dilute flow of wind and solar.

In terms of human betterment, the real enemy is the climate industrial complex: the cronies behind wind, solar, and EV/batteries—cronies both government and private. A major mid-course correction is needed to get the causality right, but will Mr. Carlevale oblige?

Just posted in the comment section of WUWT’s guest post reproduction of your piece, repeating here for good measure:

Whenever you see accusations about ‘Big Oil’ engaging in disinformation campaigns, never lose sight of how one of the main hallmarks of far-left enviros is how they project what they themselves are actually guilty of doing as accusations of what others are doing.

Guys like this “Edmund Carlevale” are not merely enviro-activist conspiracy theorists in the abstract, seemingly spouting their drivel out-of-the-blue. His whole screed comes from his month-old LinkedIn post, https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7127728018298429441/ and he turns out to be the recently hired “Head of Content Strategy” at Drilled Media. What’s “Drilled Media”? It’s an outfit run by the self-described ‘investigative journalist’ Amy Westervelt who is not an objective reporter in the least (as I illustrate in my tag category for her – http://gelbspanfiles.com/?tag=amy-westervelt – at my GelbspanFiles blog), she has every appearance in the world of being a useful idiot mouthpiece to regurgitate the false accusations hurled by ex-Greenpeacer Kert Davies, the guy she touts at her Drilled podcast as her “documents guy.” ( http://gelbspanfiles.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/GF-Westervelt-Davies-reposit.jpg ) Who’s Kert Davies? He and his former Greenpeace ( http://gelbspanfiles.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/ex-GPers-Passac-Davies.jpg ) / Ozone Action ( http://gelbspanfiles.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/OA-staff-Passac-Davies2.jpg ) boss John Passacantando were exposed in recently-released FOIA emails out of the 2015-era NY AG’s office as being on the verge at that time of accusing Dr Willie Soon of being bribed by Exxon. ( http://gelbspanfiles.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/GAO-John-Kert-v-Soon.jpg ) What was Ozone Action? It was the place where the ‘fossil fuel money-funded skeptic climate scientists accusation first started receiving its ongoing media traction, ( http://gelbspanfiles.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/OA-Gelb-v-Balling-ICE-reposit.jpg ) with added help from the namesake of my GelbspanFiles blog. What’s the further connection that brings us back to this latest accuser Edmund Carlevale today? In the screed report he’s trying to send to the US Justice Department, the first item of evidence he offers is the “Big Oil vs. the World, Part Three: Delay” July 2022 BBC broadcast, which is actually nothing more than a subsequent repackaging of the April 2022 U.S. PBS Frontline report “The Power of Big Oil.” Who had featured roles in that 3-part series? John Passacantando and Kert Davies. ( http://gelbspanfiles.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Davies-Passac-backtoback.jpg ) In one dramatic scene with Passacantando, he’s watching an old video of the late Dr S Fred Singer, ( http://gelbspanfiles.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Frontline-OA-Passac-watching-Singer.jpg ) where Frontline deliberately desaturated the color out of that video. As I detailed in my dissection of the Frontline broadcast, ( http://gelbspanfiles.com/?p=13580 ) that video copy comes from Kert Davies’ current website efforts to smear the credibility of skeptic climate scientists.

Edmund Carlevale doesn’t contribute an iota of new material to the diatribes about ‘fossil fuel-funded disinformation,’ he’s just the latest regurgitater of the same old totally false accusations where just like his predecessors, he never lifts a finger to see if their accusations have any merit.
