Good intentions are not enough. Billions of people have chosen, are choosing, and will choose the best energies for their personal benefit.

These two points are worth remembering when reading an interview of Emily Atkin, founder and writer of the climate-alarm publication Heated, by Future Earth Catalog. Emily herself introduced the published interview, titled Emily Atkin is Not an Optimist,” as follows.

One of the most common questions I’m asked as a climate journalist is whether I’m “optimistic” or “hopeful” about the future. And after more than a decade of answering it, I think I’ve finally figured out my answer. Unfortunately, no—I’m not especially optimistic or full of glittery hope.

“The doom industry is alive and well despite a litany of failed predictions along the way…. Statism and statism alone can cause mass destruction and deaths, as proven in the 20th century…. The ‘insurance policy’ against this is a free society based on private property rights, voluntary exchange, and the rule of law.”

The world’s most viewed climate website (WUWT) contains a list of the exaggerated, failed apocalyptic predictions from neo-Malthusians in the last half century. So I was surprised to see this new prediction making the rounds.

Mark Campbell, “environmental journalist and communicator,” posted at his website: “Insurers Say Half the World Could Be Killed by Climate Change” (June 11, 2026). I learned of him and this prediction in a LinkedIn exchange where he protested against Michael Shellenberger’s “Caught Pushing an Apocalyptic Scenario They Knew Couldn’t Occur, Climate Scientists Are Now Claiming Their Policies Prevented It.”…

“The fatal conceit of ‘experts’ and ‘planners’ is promoting coercive social policy based on incomplete or wrong knowledge that the perpetrator thinks is God-like given and true. Ingmar Rentzhog is a danger, not prophet, in this regard.”

The Swedish website We Don’t Have Time declares itself to be “The World’s Largest Media Platform for Climate Action.” It is added: “We are democratizing knowledge about climate solutions to inspire and mobilize global action toward a prosperous, fossil-free future.”

A “prosperous, fossil-free future”? What is this group about? Start with the CEO and founder, Ingmar Rentzhog, who recently posted a sad plea, “The Biggest Lie Ever Told Is Only Four Words Long (August 20, 2026).

After ten years, he began, “I mostly feel exhausted.”

I have spent ten years inside the climate crisis, more or less around the clock.

It is not easy being green. “Green” energy is hardly green (think wind/solar/battery industrialization), and virtually all climate mitigation activism has negatives for consumers, taxpayers, and freedom. This is less the law of unintended consequences as it is Deep Ecology’s assault on modern living and human betterment.

Fast forward to the summer of 2026. As long predicted, a warming world (natural and anthropogenic) requires adaptation. That means air conditioning, mist machines, and ice generation in increasing amounts to meet the summer peak. Yet the activists despise such basic adaptation on grounds that higher electricity demand will require more fossil-fired generation from existing or new capacity.…
