Flat Temperatures, Still More Ills

By Robert Bradley Jr. -- February 5, 2014

“When the history of the global warming scare comes to be written, a chapter should be devoted to the way the message had to be altered to keep the show on the road. Global warming became climate change so as to be able to take the blame for cold spells and wet seasons as well as hot days. Then, to keep its options open, the movement began to talk about ‘extreme weather’.”

– Matt Ridley, “Nobody Even Calls the Weather Average,” July 9, 2013.

Last summer, global warming was blamed for firefighter deaths, more thunderstorms, and poor lobster catches.

Last fall and so far this winter, the list has grown to include:

A cartoon illustrates the hilarity of the ever-expanding, often contradictory list:

IPCC via Borenstein: Everything Worsens!

Several months ago, Seth Borenstein in the Huffington Post described how a report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) concluded that climate change (man-made climate change) will MAKE EVERYTHING WORSE!

He begins:

Many of the ills of the modern world — starvation, poverty, flooding, heat waves, droughts, war and disease — are likely to worsen as the world warms from man-made climate change, a leaked draft of an international scientific report forecasts.

The report uses the word “exacerbate” repeatedly to describe warming’s effect on poverty, lack of water, disease and even the causes of war.

Ills Aplenty

The ill-list above adds to a master list compiled (see my February 2010 post) by Number Watch (UK), a depot for “all about the scares, scams, junk, panics, and flummery cooked up by the media, politicians, bureaucrats, so-called scientists and others who try to confuse you with wrong numbers.”

This site interprets the climate-change movement as eco-theology. It explains:

Children are having nightmares about their carbon footprint. What a pretty pass modern man has brought himself to! Frightening children with scary stories about hell fire is the way our ancestors drilled society into conformity. It might have been hoped that the age of science would bring all that to an end, but now we have entered the post-scientific age, in which a new class of high priest returns to the traditional methods of enforcement.

So here is the list (of nearly 700), to which we must now add dozens more:

Oh, here’s one I found from this morning: “Heat-related deaths will rise 257% by 2050 because of climate change.”

And here is the latest from ‘The Warmlist

You know global warming is a fraud by the behavior of the AGW true believers. They claim they can predict the future and control the climate. When you ask for some examples where they have successfully done this, they call you names.

The article by Seth Borenstein last October escaped me for I would have made comment. Borenstein wrote, “Many of the ills of the modern world — starvation, poverty, flooding, heat waves, droughts, war and disease — are likely to worsen as the world warms from man-made climate change, a leaked draft of an international scientific report forecasts.”

How dumb can climate alarmists be? Have they not heard of the “Four Horsemen of The Apocalypse”. All disasters cited have been part of all written human history. Modern society has tamed these disasters by use of our abundant fossil fuels. The alarmists want to go back to pre-industrial revolution times that will make climate disasters more dangerous.

It is amazing to me that so many scientists have produced papers that conclude that the effects that they observed are solely caused by global warming. One reason is that in their proposals to the government agencies and university foundations researchers seek to find a connection with some observed environmental effect and climate in order to obtain and to maintain financial support. Naturally if one proposes that climate has an effect there is a strong pressure to find one. While this blindness in observations may not be an overt desire by the researcher, it affects their open minded and skeptical assessment of their results that could include other causes for the observed change or effect. Not looking for other causes for observed environmental effects is a blindness that has affected the climate research area for the 20 years. The list above explains why zealot researchers find conflicting effects from the same change in climate. In fact the IPCC scientists in the AR5 report this year were blinded by political motives and refused to consider any other causes for a global temperature increases other by CO2 in the atmosphere. They were 90% certain.
Climate science is not like chemistry or physics in which an experiment can be run to validate a theory by observing how well it fits the data. If need be, the experiment can be repeated to verify its reproducibility. In climate research, the experiment is uncontrolled because the observations are made over a period of months and years where the scientist is at the mercy of changes in the environmental conditions. Under these circumstances the observed effect is reported with little real certainty and the conclusions to the papers contain many may “bes”, could “bes” or should “bes” and few certain climate caused effects. Probably none of the observed effects due to global warming prove that CO2 is single cause of heating of the planet which has been heating up since 1880’s.

Hey, there is a broken link in this article, under the anchor text – expansion of university climate groups
