It is the skeptics that need to get out of the way and let others who care get together for the benefit of everyone whether they deserve it or not! Environmental and Economic reasons both! If we have no environment hmm.... that means you could just forget about wasting time worrying about your pocket book.

Al Gore's time frame of having the country powered by clean energy in 10 years is improbable, if not in certain respects, impractical. That said, do you not think we should take advantage of clean, renewable, domestically-produced energy sources? How long is oil going to be cheap? And don't forget that Oil, Gas & Coal industries receive drastically more federal, state and local subsidies than renewable energy. (Please see the Texas Comptroller's own research into the issue: http://www.window.state.tx.us/specialrpt/energy/subsidies/exhibits/exhibit28-5.php). Now before you mention ethanol- please note that as far as I'm concerned, corn-based ethanol is an atrocity and the money spent to prop up that industry is an absolute waste.

The fallacy of repowering America in 10 years is best illustrated by the fact that in most states the necessary land acquisition, and zoning, design and construction, and regulatory permits will take many years to obtain before the first shovel of dirt is turned over. This process has to be duplicated at the federal level. Once all permits are obtained, the wind, solar, and nuclear equipment can be ordered, subject to backlogs and capacity limitations on the manufacturers and construction contractors.

Oh, I forgot the land acquisition and permitting process needed to build the power grid infrastructure additions. More years, and the time frames for the most part do not overlap and involve different sets of state and federal regulatory agencies.

The alarmism to justify replacing cheap and cost effective generators with costly, inefficient, and intermittent generators is delusional.
